  Tavernelle Wells is a contemporary expressive artist from Trinidad and Tobago. Her creative practice is about following through on the process. She employs a unique, organised style of diagonally weaving brushstrokes to create depth and layers of meaning. Her paintings are her visual journal capturing her creative journey. Each engages the viewer to consider a contemplative life.

     Tavernelle is a national scholar who graduated, with distinction, from the University of Guelph in Canada. She credits her visual arts studies at the University of the West Indies with helping her develop an expressive art practice. She also has a Master of Arts in Arts and Heritage: Policy, Management and Education from Maastricht University in the Netherlands, specialising in the Creatives Cities. When not in her studio, she works as a consultant in the local creative and heritage sectors.

    Tavernelle was a finalist at the 2012 Embracing Our Differences Exhibition in Sarasota, FL, United States. She previously participated in various exhibitions at the Central Bank Museum and the Rotunda Gallery of the Parliament of Trinidad and Tobago. She exhibited in the 2019 CARIFESTA XIV (Caribbean Regional Arts Festival) in the Lived In Exhibition in Port-of-Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. She also represented her country in 2022 at the 9th Beijing International Art Biennale hosted at the National Art Museum of China, which later acquired the painting “Torch” as part of its permanent collection.
